Witness appeal after further fatal collision in Staffordshire

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision this afternoon at Weston-under-Lizard, Staffordshire.

Officers were called to the A5, Weston, at 2.20pm following reports of a multi-vehicle collision.

Five vehicles were involved in the collision, a black Seat Ibiza, a black Audi R8, an orange Renault Megane, a black BMW 5 series and a Citroen C4 Picasso.

Sadly, two passengers from the Seat, a woman in her 20s and a woman in her 40s both from the Market Drayton area, were pronounced dead at the scene. A male in his mid-teens was taken by Air Ambulance to the Royal Stoke University Hospital with serious injuries, where he continues to receive treatment and is described as critical.

A man, in his 40s from the Telford area, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after initially been taken by ambulance to the Princess Hospital in Telford. He remains in police custody.

As a result of the collision the road was closed in both directions and will be closed into the evening whilst specialist officers carry out a detailed examination of the scene.

An investigation to understand the exact circumstances of what happened is underway and witnesses are asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 396 of 6 July.
