Plans for Gym and Nail Bar within Sainsburys
PLANS have been submitted for a new Gym and Nail Bar within the Sainsburys Store at Jolly Sailor Retail Park.
The plans will see just over 400 sq m of the supermarket shopping area being taken away to create a 381 sq m Gym and a 28 sq m Nail Bar.
At this point in time, there is no identified operator for the gym, but is targeted towards providing a large open plan and flexible space aimed at the budget end of the gym market, similar to other retail park gyms, think easygym or puregym.
Budget gyms mentioned are generally accessible 24 hours a day 7 days a week which is why sharing locations with retail units is a good business model. Budget gyms rely on large simple floor plans which offer flexibility and have access free car parking.
If the planning is successful, the nail bar would be operated by a national operator, Regis. The nail bar would provide a wide selection of manicure and pedicure services including, filing and polishing, precision nail shaping, infills and advanced cuticle care. The concession would also offer massage, moisturising and skin rejuvenation treatments for hands and feet.
In August 2014 89 sq m of the retail floorspace in the store to a dental surgery.
Current gym provisions within Tamworth include:
- Gymophobics - George Street
- SnowDome - Leisure Island
- Bannatyne Health Club - Bonehill Road
- Lifestyle Fitness - Namco Station
- The Fitness Hub - Lichfield Road Industrial Estate
- Claymore Gym - Tame Valley Industrial Estate
Full details of the plan can be found by visiting the planning portal on the Tamworth Borough Council website and searching for planning application 0230/2015.
why?
yet more traffic going into one area, how about build the gym and nail bar, in the town?
Look at the planning application within the article, the town centre was considered but no suitable site.
We have enough Gyms and nail bars in the town and surrounding areas dont need any more.
Not a 24/7 one like this is likely to be.

Well in that case lets have ten. lol

What better place than a supermarket for a gym! Straight off the treadmill into a jam doughnut
I suspect they’ve observed how many people use the store straight after the gym - Lycra clad shoppers - and think having a gym within the store would be more convenient for those using said gym. *shrugs*

Amy Smith get a transfer I want gym discount 😉
cooling down with the fosen peas youll be eating tomorrow, greed is beyond belief for some
I think it is just unhygienic having a gym inside a supermarket, it’s not a smart move at all for Sainsbury’s to do this, I don’t mind the nail bar as much as that isn’t as bad as having sweaty, smelly people working out then touching all the food!!
Why don’t they bring back the dry cleaners and shoe repair outlets?
Now you can BOGOF as you JOGOF lmao
I don’t think the gym will actually be ‘inside’ Sainsburys as such. Will be a new entrance etc.
Loving some of these comments. Just think what it might be like if they put TOILETS in a supermarket, with all those people wandering around touching all the food after not washing their hands! Oh, wait…………. 😉

Boom!! More outlets for vain people, more coffee shops and a Caribbean restaurant will be fine for me..
What about parking it’s bad enough down there now and bannyntines are having a new super new gym refit and no joining fee

Still weird join bannatyne instead
How’s it weird? 24/7 gym, budget fees…
Although it’s within the supermarket it’s not actually ‘in’ the aisles.
My opinion
Guess time will tell…
Just stick to what your good at. Food!
