Collision at Overwoods Road junction with Trinity Road

Police Accident Sign

A COLLISION at the junction of Overwoods Road and Trinity Road is causing delays this afternoon.

The collision, just out of the Tamworth Borough involves a Car and an HGV.

The collision is one of many at the junction which is known as an accident black spot.

It is understood that earlier in the year a petition was submitted to Warwickshire County Council to improve conditions at the junction.

More details to follow.

  1. Lost my Son, Sister and nephew at this junction year and a half ago, My lads mum has worked really hard getting petitions signed to get something done yet they do nothing, and now,,,, another accident! As already end stated by many, how many more?

  2. To keep seeing these stories makes me sick to the stomach, brings that horrendous night flooding back every time, we have to live with this for the rest of our lives, please don’t make someone else’s world fall apart. It’s about time council started putting lives before money 😡

  3. If they don’t want to install traffic lights they need to at least reduce the speed limit and put speed cameras (that work!) in each direction by the junction. I signed the petition, does there have to be more precious lives lost before they act?! Cars and lorries go way to fast. Hope all involved in today’s accident are ok

    • As far as I’m aware this is the second accident at this junction. Both in the last 18 months. I’ve lived off overwoods road for nearly 27 years and it has never been a accident point until now.
Lorry’s do come down at a speed at times but if stopped and waiting to come out onto trinity Rd you can actually see clearly so it’s got to be human error in my opinion.

  4. The junction is clear enough but most drivers on Trinity road race down that road at 60mph or more!!! It really needs something to make people slow down. If not traffic lights then there should be at least a speed limit in place. This would also help people coming out of Planters where we had plenty accidents in the past

  5. I drive this junction most days and can not understand why there’s so many accidents. The road is too fast there but it’s not hindered by an obstructive view of the traffic from any direction!. Obviously some kind of traffic calming needs to be put there tho to slow drivers to a sensible speed.

    • Tbh ive never noticed those but I’m not a fast driver myself. I always have the kids with me when going that way so I’m super careful and don’t pull onto the main Rd unless 100 percent happy that I have enough room. But when driving from Planters I have had people pull out on me at a stupidly close distance.

    • I used that road every day between Jan 2001 to Nov 2005. I lost count of the number of times someone pulled out on me going to and from work in Coleshill, so it’s not a new phenomenon. The issue is people taking chances, whether it’s pulling out of the junction or idiots overtaking. You can’t protect people from stupidity.

    • It’s a very deceptive and dangerous junction. When driving towards J10 with Planters on your right, the bushes on the left obstruct the signpost indicating that a left hand turning is coming up. They need to be cut back. Also these bushes affect the driver’s view when pulling out of Overwoods Road to turn right towards Planters’ direction. Something MUST be done. CRAIG TRACEY is the Warwickshire MP and needs to sort this out as this road falls under Warwickshire borough I believe.

  6. As far as I’m aware this is the second accident at the junction in the last 3 years. I’ve lived off overwoods road for nearly 27 years and it’s never been thought of as a accident prone junction. Lorry’s do come down at a speed sometimes, but if you are stationery waiting on overwoods Rd to pull out, you can see. So I think in my opinion the problems are human error.

  7. Whether the accidents are due to human error or not something needs doing to stop these accidents happening, yes people make poor judgements, yes lorries and cars both break the speed limit on that road, that’s never going to change until they are made to, hence traffic calming measures need putting in place so they have no choice but to wait or slow down.

  8. If people would stop pulling out into reasonable flowing traffic and then continuing to drive in 3rd gear then there will be many more terrible accidents, a lorry travelling at 40mph needs a lot longer to slow down (I’m not a lorry driver).
I use the road most morning and have plenty of people pulling out and not keeping up with the traffic flow.
