MP for Tamworth Christopher Pincher thanks schoolchildren for designs in Christmas Card Competition 2020 as he announces the winners and runners up.
The Christmas Card competition has seen primary school children across Tamworth create a design for the front of our local MP’s card that he will send out to people and places across Tamworth, as well as to the Prime Minister.
After a fierce competition with many designs sent in Mr Pincher picked a winner to go on the front of the card and two runner ups to go onto the back.
- Winner – Autumn Whiteley (Year 6) of Flax Hill Junior Academy
- Runner Up – Isla Stephenson (Year 3) of Thomas Barnes Primary School
- Runner Up – Peggy Powell (Year 3) of Flax Hill Junior Academy
This years’ prize includes a framed copy of the winning design printed on a card, a House of Commons Teddy Bear and the opportunity to visit Parliament for a tour with their family. The two runners up have received a special surprise present too.
The last winner of the competition was William from Coton Green Primary School in 2018. His design involving a festive polar bear and iceberg. Unfortunately, the general election postponed last year’s search for Tamworth’s winning design, but this year has seen a great response even during COVID-19 restrictions.

Commenting, Christopher Pincher said:
“I know this has been a year like no other, for all of us including school pupils. The change to virtual learning, then back to school in year or class bubbles and some are experiencing learning from home again. It has been nice to be able to keep to one of my annual traditions of inviting Tamworth’s school children to design my card.
“I had more entrants than I have ever had before and picking a winner was really tough. So many pupils sent me colourful drawings and I could tell they had great fund drawing them.
This year the winner is Autumn Whiteley (Year 6) from Flax Hill Junior Academy with Isla Stephenson (Year 3) of Thomas Barnes and Peggy Powell (Year 3) of Flax Hill as the runners up.
All three of them will feature on this year’s card that will go to businesses, shops, people across Tamworth and even the Prime Minister himself.

Christopher Pincher also said: “Thank you too for a local benefactor for sponsoring the competition.”
Adding, Executive Headteacher Mr Richard Lane of Flax Hill Junior Academy said:
“We are so pleased that children from Flax Hill Junior Academy have been chosen especially as we are a school that encourages all aspects of a child’s development.
“We work extremely hard to make sure that the children receive excellent art, music and pe lessons and to be chosen for the front and back of the card is a real accolade.”
