CELEBRATING the hard work and dedication of mums to their families, more than a thousand people joined forces at Drayton Manor Park yesterday (26th March) to make memories and tell their mums how much they love them – and achieved a Guinness World Records’ title in the process!
1,139 people came together at Drayton Manor Park, in Staffordshire, wrote heartfelt ‘Messages to Mum’, pinned them to a giant cork board and went down in history by smashing the Guinness World Record for the most contributions to a bulletin board.
The family owned and run park in Tamworth teamed up with Kids Pass – the UK’s number one discount pass for parents – and their friends and family to create the biggest Mother’s Day message board ever!
The record attempt coincides with the launch of the brand new ‘Guinness World Records 2017: Blockbusters!’ book, and the first 100 contributors to the message board received a free copy yesterday. The book features the latest smash hit records, cool pictures, behind-the-scenes news and definitive top 10s from the world of movies, toys, TV and online to keep youngsters entertained this Easter.
William Bryan, Managing Director of Drayton Manor Park, said: “We are delighted to have hosted such a momentous event. As a family run park we recognise the importance of mums and the hard work they do day in and day out. We really wanted to do something special to celebrate Mother’s Day this year and what better way than to encourage our guests to show gratitude to the special ladies in their lives with a unique gift of an everlasting message.
“It’s a great achievement for us to have been part of a Guinness World Record breaking partnership with Kids Pass and it was lovely to see so many families enjoying a day out with their mums and giving them a much deserved day of fun and laughter!”
Official Guinness World Records Adjudicator, Anna Orford, said: “Attempting to break a world record on Mother’s Day was a huge task, with over 1,000 contributions needed to make it into the record books.
“Fortunately, the visitors at Drayton Manor were more than up to the challenge, so I am delighted to announce that we have a new Guinness World Records title! Witnessing everybody pin their messages to mum on the giant bulletin board was a privilege and a Blockbusting way to celebrate mothers everywhere.”
Andrew Kilmartin, CEO of Kids Pass, said: “Inspired by the love we have for our mums, we wanted to do something that would honour the amazing women in our lives – and what better way to do that than by achieving a Guinness World Record!
“Kids Pass has worked alongside Drayton Manor Park since 2015 offering Kids Pass members exclusive discounts on their entrance tickets to the park. Drayton Manor has always proven a favourite with Kids Pass members and they were the perfect partner for the Guinness World Record.”
The gates open for Drayton Manor Park’s main season this Thursday 30th March and the park will welcome a brand new ride, James and the Red Balloon, which lands in Europe’s only Thomas Land™ on Saturday 1st April.
