TRAGIC news today that a woman was killed at Tamworth Train Station yesterday evening, Wednesday 20 January.
The 39-year-old woman, who is believed to be from the local area was killed when she was struck by a train on the upper level platform.
It is believed that the woman took her own life and no one else is sought in relation to the death.
Emergency services were called to the scene, including British Transport Police and a helicopter from the Birmingham base of the National Police Air Service
Trains along the route at the time of the incident were delayed or cancelled with the 2307hrs service from Birmingham New Street being the first train to return to normal.
A British Transport Police Spokesperson told Tamworth Informed:
“We were called just before 8pm yesterday (20 January) following a report a person had been struck by a train at Tamworth railway station.
“Officers attended the scene alongside paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service and a woman, believed to be aged 39 and from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The woman’s family has been informed, her death is not being treated as suspicious.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
