Which films do you want to watch at 2018 Outdoor Cinema?

Wednesday, 17th January 2018

MOVIE lovers are being invited to choose the films that are shown at this year’s Outdoor Cinema in Tamworth Castle Grounds, after a hugely successful sell-out event the past five years.

Last summer’s Outdoor Cinema sold out within a week of going on sale after the job of deciding which films to screen was handed over to members of the public. More than 1,100 movie lovers took to social media to cast their votes with Pretty Woman and The Goonies coming out top.

Pretty Woman sold out in just five days as movie lovers jumped at the chance to see the rom-com classic on the big screen and the cult adventure film The Goonies, sold out shortly afterwards.

As a result of last year’s success, the film selection is again being put out to a public vote, from a shortlist of approved movies. This summer’s Outdoor Cinema takes place on Saturday, August 4 and will again include one movie at 9 pm, followed by a midnight movie.

Choices for the 9 pm show are:

  • Top Gun
  • The Bodyguard
  • The Full Monty
  • Moulin Rouge
  • La La Land
  • Bridesmaids
  • Magic Mike
  • Back to the Future

Choices for the midnight movie are:

  • Gremlins
  • The Blair Witch Project
  • The Fly
  • Alien
  • Labyrinth
  • Psycho
  • The Shining

The Outdoor Cinema and audience poll is again being organised by Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts and Events team as part of the 2018 programme of events.

Votes can be cast via the Tamworth Arts and Events Facebook page. Voting details will also be sent via email to subscribers of Tamworth Arts and Events news.

Cllr Joy Goodall, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Environment and Culture, said: “This will be the sixth year for the Outdoor Cinema and it’s just growing in popularity all the time. Although it has enjoyed sell-out crowds before, last year’s event sold out within just a week of going on sale and part of that may have been due to letting audiences decide what they wanted to see.

“People really welcomed the opportunity to get involved in the decision-making process, so we’ve decided to open it out to public vote again. Tickets will be on sale soon after the results are in, so I’d encourage anyone who’d like to attend to keep an eye out for details – there were lots of disappointed people who missed out last year.”

Polls will be open from January 18 and votes can be cast until January 25.

The Outdoor Cinema is just one element of a packed programme of outdoor events that have been confirmed for 2018. The full outdoor events programme will be available soon on www.tamworth.gov.uk/news
