Wednesday, 27th August 2014

Saturday August 23rd saw Tamworth Lions and Tamworth Borough Council, hold their annual ‘We Love Tamworth’ extravaganza.

The wet weather didn’t spoil the We Love Tamworth extravaganza – in fact, this year’s event attracted around 9,500 visitors, compared with 8,000 last year.

The Castle Grounds came alive on Saturday with a day-long programme of fun for all the family, with something for everyone.

This year there were over 45 exhibitors, ranging from charity and service organisation stalls, a car display from a local major company, local businesses and many more organisations.

Highlights included fairground rides, duck race, bouncy castle, water zorbing, dog show, Lenny the land train, Tamworth’s strongest man competition, walkabout characters and stalls.

There was also a Children’s Zone, featuring a petting zoo, Midsummer Magic storyteller, giant games, face painting, balloon modelling and craft activities. The Zone attracted almost 300 children throughout the day.

Amington Band added musical accompaniment to the day, as they performed in the Bandstand throughout the afternoon.

Tamworth Borough Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Rob Pritchard, said: “We are delighted that so many people came along and took part in We Love Tamworth. Last year was the first time we had run the event and a lot of people told us they wanted to see it return again this year. It certainly paid off, with even more people coming along this time round. Everyone enjoyed the event and the spell of rain didn’t dampen spirits.”

President of Tamworth Lions, Trish Lambert said: “It’s really good to see so many people enjoying themselves and supporting the many exhibitors, from a local wildlife trust, to scouts and air cadets looking to recruit new members, a miniature traction engine giving rides to children of all ages, and of course Lions own displays.

“Lions raised over £200.00 on the day from our own stand, which has swelled the amount raised by us for the event to just over £1,600.00, to benefit our charity fund, for the people of Tamworth – thank you for coming along on the day, enjoying yourselves, and supporting so many worthy causes.”
