HELLO and welcome to my weekly View from the House for Tamworth Informed.
Do the Aethel! This week our Queen of Mercia, Lady Aethelflaed, arrived in Tamworth.
This year marks the 1,100th year anniversary of her on 12th June 918 in Tamworth. She was the eldest daughter of Alfred the Great, king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex, and his wife Ealhswith.
On Friday I had the pleasure of taking the Mercian singers – all 33 of them – for a tour around Parliament and even managed to get them to do the Aethel. We’re very lucky to have such important history right on our doorstep and I hope that the Aethel statue is welcomed into the Tamworth landscape with open arms.
If you, or anybody you know, has never had a tour of Parliament or maybe would just like another one then please do not hesitate to get in touch. All that’s left is to wish you a great bank holiday weekend and half term.
