STAFF, pupils and families from William MacGregor Primary School in Glascote have raised more than £1,000 for Mind, the mental health charity, in the first ever Tamworth Schools 5k dash.
The event, supported by local estate agency Green & Company, saw more than 100 people walk and run 5km through Tamworth Castle Grounds, raising funds for the charity in the process. Staff, pupils, parents and even grandparents took part in the school’s first ever ‘dash’, which organisers hope will become an annual event for local schools.
Suzie Norton, headteacher at William MacGregor Primary School, said: “We are incredibly proud with the final sum raised, and the way in which our school family really got involved.
“We have an active fitness and wellbeing programme and this initiative gave us a chance to communicate that message to families, whilst raising money for a fantastic cause in the process. I am incredibly grateful to Green & Company for their generous support, without which the 5k dash would not have been the success it was.”
Chris Green, director at Green & Company, which has sales and lettings offices serving the Tamworth area, said: “We believe it is important for local businesses to play their part in the community and we were delighted to be able to support William MacGregor Primary School with this event.
“The fantastic sum raised goes some way to demonstrate how successful it was, and I hope other local schools will get on board next year to make it even bigger and even better.”
