Why house-hunters are turning to Tamworth in search of a new home

TAMWORTH is fast becoming a popular destination for people looking for an affordable and well-connected place to call home.

Highlighted by the Guardian as one of ten property hotspots in the UK last month, Tamworth’s appeal is rising with those looking to leave city life behind in a post-lockdown world.

And the popularity of the town with movers from Birmingham and elsewhere is already being seen by housebuilders such as Bellway West Midlands, which has its regional headquarters in the town and is building new homes at Barley Fields, off Ashby Road.

Marie Richards, Sales Director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “Tamworth has been a magnet for people moving out of Birmingham for a while, but since lockdown people from further afield are re-evaluating what’s important about their home and the surrounding area.

“More and more home-hunters are now looking for an escape from city life – and an attractive yet affordable market town like Tamworth is a really desirable option.

“It’s always been a great place for families, with the Snowdome’s real ski slope and ice rink, Drayton Manor Park, and Staffordshire’s beautiful open countryside close by.

“When you add in the fact that Tamworth is incredibly well connected, with great rail links to Birmingham in as little as 16 minutes and direct trains to both Manchester and London in about an hour and a half, then it’s easy to see why buyers are looking to settle down here.

“As well as this, the area benefits from great local road connections and the M42, M6 and A5 can be easily accessed.

“We’ve seen rising interest in our new homes at Barley Fields and we’ve found that many customers are drawn in by the commuter links and house prices.”

Jen and Ellie Holmes bought a home in the area at Bellway’s Barley Fields development last year. Jen, 27, said: “We wanted to find a location that was well situated for both our jobs and had good commuter links.

“We skipped a step on the property ladder by upsizing from a two-bed to five-bed home. It saved us lots of money, and it was only possible with Bellway’s prices. We never thought we could afford a home like this. We’re now living in the perfect house. It’s massive!”

A range of two, three and four-bedroom homes is currently available at Barley Fields, with prices starting from £209,995.

One-to-one appointments are now available with sales advisors, and virtual tours are being offered through the Bellway website. For more information visit bellway.co.uk, or call Barley Fields on 01827 788152.
