Tamworth man remanded in Custody following Murder charge

A man has been charged with murder and remanded in custody by Magistrates following the death of a man in Tamworth.

Terry Francis Maughan, 21, of Tinkers Green Road, was charged with murder yesterday and appeared before Cannock Magistrates Court this morning, Sat 31 May, charged with the death of his father, 73-year-old John Francis Maughan.  

The case has now been committed to Stafford Crown Court on Friday 6th June and Maughan was remanded in custody at HMP Dovegate Prison.

Emergency services were called to their home at around 12.20pm on Tuesday 27 May when sadly, John Maughan was pronounced dead by paramedics. 

An investigation into his death was launched by Staffordshire Police and it is believed that he was assaulted on Monday 26 May.

A post-mortem examination has taken place and further tests continue.

At this time, a 23-year-old woman remains on police bail pending further inquiries.

Specially trained family liaison officers from Staffordshire Police are offering John’s family support at this difficult time.

The scene was cordoned off while a forensic examination took place and Police want to reassure residents that the incident involved people known to each other.
