Tamworth Food Gusto Festival to offer a taste of something different

Friday, 17th July 2015

FOOD lovers will be able to sample the region’s finest culinary delights at a brand new food and drink festival taking place in Tamworth this year.

Tamworth’s Town Team, Destination Tamworth, has joined forces with Ashby-based ‘Food Gusto’ to bring dozens of unique and artisan traders to the area this September.

From handmade crisps and locally-brewed beer to organic meat, pickles and pates, the first ever Tamworth Food Gusto Festival will showcase the best the town and wider Midlands region has to offer in the way of quality produce.

Taking place over two days on September 12th and 13th, the event is expected to attract more than 50 local food and drink producers with hot food all day, samples and demonstrations creating an explosion of sights and smells to tantalise the taste buds.

It will be set in the picturesque Pleasure Grounds at the foot of the centuries-old Tamworth Castle and will coincide with the annual Stars and Stripes charity line dancing day on the Saturday and national Heritage Open Day on the Sunday.

Samantha Panton of Tamworth Town Team said: “This event is all about raising the profile of Tamworth and complementing the many great facilities and attractions we have to offer with something a bit different.

“There are lots of quality and niche purveyors of food and drink in the region and this is about showcasing these businesses and offering people a taste of that quality.”

Food Gusto has been organising food and drink events in the Midlands region for several years. Its Event Director Wesley Ewing said: “We are passionate about great food and drink and Food Gusto is all about promoting what the region has to offer. From home-grown wine to handmade cheeses, there will be a wide range of businesses represented.

“The festivals we organise are an explosion on the senses with lots to see and taste, giving people the chance to try new things and also to buy the best food and drink available in the region. We are really excited about our first event in Tamworth.”

Tamworth Food Gusto Festival will have something to offer people of all ages, including children’s activities, live music and a beer tent selling specialty ales. There will also be a host of activities taking place throughout the weekend.

Any local food and drink producers which would like to have a stall at the festival can contact Food Gusto on 01530 411337 to check availability.

Entrance to the Food Festival area will be charged at £1 per adult while under-16s (accompanied by an adult) get in free.
