Tamworth families enjoy free trip to Ash End Farm

December 14, 2015

CHRISTMAS came early for Tamworth families who attend drop-in play sessions run by Tamworth Borough Council when they were treated to a festive day out to Ash End Children’s Farm.

A total of 27 families (56 people in total) were taken on the fun day out, with transport being provided for those who needed it from St Martin’s Church in Stonydelph to the Middleton attraction.

The event was organised by Tamworth Borough Council’s Sports Development team to give families who attend the authority’s Activity Sessions and Fit Tots groups a fun day out together, without having to worry about driving, public transport or parking.

It was made possible by Staffordshire County Councillor Chris Cooke who provided the funding from his share of the county council’s Community Fund.

This meant the cost of travel and entrance to the farm was covered and families only had to provide their lunch for the day.

Children, parents and carers enjoyed a busy day meeting, feeding and learning about the various animals at Ash End Farm and were also able to take part in a nativity play. The trip ended with a special visit to Father Christmas.

Deputy Leader for Tamworth Borough Council, Cllr Robert Pritchard, said: “This follows on from a trip to Rosliston Forestry Centre earlier this year and gave families another opportunity to enjoy a fun day out together.

“Our Activity Sessions and Fit Tots groups are organised by child supervisor for the council Jayne Allen and provide fun, educational play sessions for parents and carers with children aged 0-6.

“They are offered in various locations across the town and enable people to get together with their children for fun and exercise in a safe environment.

“I would like to thank Jayne for organising the trip, County Cllr Cooke for making it possible and Ash End Farm for ensuring the group had a great day out.”

The educational play sessions take place at various locations in Tamworth throughout the week, including:

Monday: 9am-11am – St Martin’s Church, Ellerbeck.
