A SUMMER of fun and games kicks off at the weekend with the first in a weekly series of free Games in the Park events taking place in Tamworth Castle Grounds during the school holidays.
Anyone who fancies a game of Jenga, Connect 4, giant snakes and ladders, chess, Scrabble or a variety of other activities, is invited along to the Lower Lawn near the Bandstand on Saturday July 30, between 10am and 3pm.
Hosted by Tamworth’s Community Together (CIC), similar sessions will take place every Saturday throughout August – August 6, 13, 20 and 27 – providing free entertainment for people of all ages to enjoy during the summer holidays.
Community Together CIC is a not-for-profit community interest company which hosts a number of services and events for the Tamworth area. The group has recently received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and will be moving to new premises in the Castle Grounds at the end of September.
The new Community Together CIC Hub Centre will set up at the Activity Centre – the former outdoor swimming baths – where it will offer a range of daily activities such as games, arts and crafts, IT support, a job club, walking and cycling groups and healthy cooking sessions, plus a selection of food and drink for visitors.
The hub will be officially opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire Mr Ian Dudson during a special ceremony on Thursday September 22.
Cllr Joy Goodall, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Environment & Culture, said: “Games in the Park should provide the perfect entertainment for a family day out in the Castle Grounds. There will be a variety of games and activities for people of all ages to take part in.
“The sessions will also give people the opportunity to find out more about the work of Community Together CIC and the exciting plans it has in store for the Activity Centre at the former swimming baths.”
