WITH Euro 2016 and Wimbledon gripping the nation, children are being encouraged to sign up to take part in a free summer of sport.
Tamworth Borough Council’s Sports Development Team has unveiled its brand new programme of sporting events, which will run throughout the school summer holiday.
The six-week scheme starts on July 25 and runs until September 2, with a wide range of activities for children aged five and upwards. And what makes it even better is that all activities will be completely free of charge, so they won’t hit your pocket.
A whole host of traditional sports including rugby, swimming, boxing, cycling and tennis are all on offer. In addition, there will be a range of more unusual activities including the Sky Trail rope, bridge and beam course, tenpin bowling, ice skating, watersports week and crazy golf.
For the first time, futsal and gymnastics have been added to the long list of fun activities to have a go at, so you can try something new!
Activities take place across the borough, with venues at the Castle Grounds, Tamworth Rugby Club, Tamworth Boxing Club, Wilnecote Leisure Centre, Planters Garden Centre, Cliff Lakes, Two Rivers Sports Hall, the SnowDome, Tamworth Olympic Gymnastics Club and Tamworth Namco Funscape bowling alley.
Cllr Joy Goodall, Cabinet member for Environment & Culture, said: “This programme has been designed to offer something for everyone and we are hoping that young people from across Tamworth will sign up to try out a wide range of sporting activities, completely free of charge.
“We have been working with sports clubs from across the borough to put together the summer programme, which means we can offer a wide range of events for the six-week break.
“These activities are always a huge success and are very popular, so I would encourage children and parents to sign up as soon as possible so that they don’t miss out.”
Details of all the events can be seen on the Tamworth Borough Council website at www.tamworth.gov.uk
