Start-up business masterclass coming to Tamworth Enterprise Centre this week

February 5, 2018

ENTREPRENEURS and new small businesses in Tamworth are invited to attend a free two-day start-up masterclass on Wednesday, February 7 and Thursday, February 8 at Tamworth Enterprise Centre.

The masterclass – Enterprise for Success programme – aims to provide individuals with the right skills they need to run their business and offers guidance to complete a detailed business plan.

The programme is run by the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) and is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The flexible, free programme offers:

  • One-to-one support from qualified advisors
  • Business plan preparation and cash flow forecasts
  • Specialist training courses covering marketing, finance, tax, business planning, e-commerce and PR
  • Referral to support organisations and networks
  • Support for businesses in their first year of trading

After successfully completing the 12-hour programme, if eligible, businesses can then apply for a grant of between £500 and £1500 from Tamworth Borough Council’s small business grant scheme, which has so far awarded 15 individuals a total of £14,753.68.

The grant scheme helps promote new business start-ups, self-employment and entrepreneurship in Tamworth. New small businesses in the area are now being encouraged to apply for the fourth round of grants of between £500 and £1500, before the application closing date on Friday, February 23.

Businesses including environmental cleaning; respite services for parents of special needs children; bespoke cakes; foot health practitioner; domestic, national and international relocation and media services have all benefited from the Enterprise for Success Programme and grant scheme since it was launched in Tamworth last April.

Cllr Steve Claymore, the Cabinet member for Regeneration, said; “The Enterprise for Success Programme continues to support individuals wishing to start up a new business or who have been trading for less than three years.

“Small businesses are the foundation of any thriving economy and using the new Tamworth Enterprise Centre as a ‘hub’ of support and advice can only help grow the local economy.”
