WITH just days to go until the Open Day this Sunday, Staffordshire Police are busy making final preparations as they set to throw open their gates and host a behind the scenes day at Police Headquarters.
The event taking place this Sunday, 28 June, between 11am and 4pm, will be a family fun day with lots of activities for both adults and children.
Members of the public are invited to go along and take a look at a large range of vehicles on display, including the helicopter and force motorbikes. Returning to the event due to popular demand, will be a selection of vintage police cars from years gone by. Demonstrations will take place to show drug-search dogs and general purpose dogs in action as well as a method of entry demonstration by the Operation Nemesis team – the force’s ongoing campaign to target those suspected of being involved in drug dealing.
Other highlights include the opportunity to learn about the latest technology that the force uses to police the streets of Staffordshire. Police uniforms will be available to try on and there is the chance to have fingerprints and a mug shot taken.
The force mascot, Kash the dog, will be around on the day with lots of meet and greet photo opportunities. Staffordshire Police will be asking attendees to send in ‘selfies’ with Kash or officers to display on their social media channels throughout the day, plus there’s is a prize for the winning entry!
There will be policing information and advice available at the event from Staffordshire Police and a range of partners including Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, the West Midlands Ambulance Service, crime prevention, Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership and many more.
The event is free of charge with bouncy castles, climbing walls, performances by a local dance group, face painting, a magician, a wild bird display and lots more happening throughout the day. A range of hot and cold refreshments will be available to buy.
Chief Constable Jane Sawyers said: “Last year’s open day was a huge success and we were totally overwhelmed with how popular it was. We anticipated 2,000 – 3,000 people but had over 8,000 people through our gates last June.
“Since then we have been inundated with queries via our social media channels on whether we will be running the event again this year, therefore we have prepared ourselves to go bigger and better to give even more people of Staffordshire a fun packed day. The event will be once again an excellent opportunity for the general public to see behind-the-scenes of Staffordshire Police. I look forward to welcoming you to Police Headquarters.”
