Spot the elves for the chance to win prizes!

CHILDREN are invited to go on the trail of Santa’s little helpers by spotting elves throughout Tamworth town centre in a fun and festive Christmas Treasure Hunt next week – with the chance to win some top prizes.

Tamworth Borough Council, Ankerside Shopping Centre and market operators LSD Promotions have teamed up with Tamworth-based Flamingo Entertainments to create a seasonal Santa trail that youngsters can take part in on Friday December 18, Saturday December 19 and Tuesday December 22.

Jolly Christmas tree, snowman and teddy bear Santa characters will be strolling around the town centre handing out entry forms for the treasure hunt, as well as stopping for photo opportunities and spreading Christmas cheer.

Children can spot Santa’s little helper elves on market stalls and in shop windows throughout the town. They then have to note their location, complete the entry form and return it to Santa’s Grotto in Ankerside Shopping Centre.

Small sweets will be given to all participants and completed forms will be entered into a prize draw on Wednesday, December 23. The winner will receive a goodie bag of gifts donated by participating stalls and shops.

The Christmas Treasure Hunt coincides with the additional Christmas market on Friday December 18 and Tamworth Borough Council’s second free parking Saturday on December 19, in which charges will be waived at all council-run town centre car parks. Ankerside Shopping Centre will also be offering free parking on December 19, to coincide with the Council initiative.

Tamworth Borough Council Cabinet member for Economy, Cllr Steve Claymore, said: “The additional Christmas markets always add to the town centre at this time of year and it is great to be working with Ankerside to provide some entertainment and fun for children to take part in.

“Thanks also to the retailers and market stall holders who are participating. I would encourage families to take their children along for some festive pre-Christmas fun, as well as the opportunity to boost the stocking with even more gifts.”

Ankerside Shopping Centre Deputy Manager Jeff Wigley added: “It’s great to see a number of our retailers getting involved in another community event in the build up to Christmas. Here at Ankerside we’re looking forward to seeing all of the children with their families coming into the centre to find the elves in the shop windows. Good luck to those involved.”

As well as the usual Tuesday and Saturday markets, additional markets will be held on Friday December 19, Monday December 21, Wednesday December 23 and until 2pm on Christmas Eve.
