Drayton Manor Theme Park’s new gravity defying thrill ride, Air Race, has proven to be so sickeningly good that passengers are now being supplied with sick bags in case of emergencies during flight.
Having only been open since 5th July 2014, it appears that the combination of banks, loops, dives and weightlessness at a height of up to eight metres are a nauseating challenge for even the most experienced thrill seekers.
As a result, a hose had to be installed next to the ride to enable Air Race and its queasy ‘pilots’ to be rinsed down after the flight had safely landed.
Following the fitting of the hose, Drayton Manor Theme Park specially designed sick bags to offer to daring passengers, in an attempt to protect their dignity, prior to boarding the most exhilarating flight of their life.
Accommodating up to 24 riders at one time in six, four-seater aeroplanes, riders experience accelerations of almost 4G as they, quite literally, have their world turned upside down during the stomach-churning aerial adventure.
Helen Pawley, General Manager, commented: “Air Race is a fantastic addition to the park but we felt in light of the effects of the ride, we needed to supply passengers with sick bags.
“It seemed like the only logical answer to keep our new £1.2 million ride a sick-free zone. It also reduces the work load of our employees and our water consumption by reducing the number of times the ride needs hosing down!”
The 2014 main season runs from Saturday 29th March 2014 to Sunday 2nd November. The Fireworks Spectacular weekend is 1st and 2nd November. Please note: the park will be closed to the general public on Sunday 14th September.
