Tamworth families enjoy free trip to Rosliston Forestry Centre
FAMILIES who attend drop-in play sessions run by Tamworth Borough Council were treated to a fun and educational day out, giving them the opportunity to learn about nature and conservation in the great outdoors.
Almost 70 parents, carers and children were taken by coach to Rosliston Forestry Centre near Swadlincote, where they enjoyed falconry, exploration, games and activities.
The event was organised by the council’s Sports Development team to give families a fun day out together, without having to worry about driving, public transport or parking.
It was made possible with funding from Staffordshire County Council’s Community Fund, which gives each councillor a £10,000 pot of cash to spend on community-based projects.
The contribution from County Councillor Chris Cooke, who represents the Stonydelph Ward for the county council, meant the cost of travel was covered and families only had to provide their lunch for the day.
County Cllr Cooke said: “I’m always grateful to anybody who is doing something worthwhile in the area and I’m happy to support initiatives like this where I can.”
Deputy Leader for Tamworth Borough Council, Cllr Robert Pritchard, said: “Our Activity Sessions and Fit Tots groups, organised by child supervisor for the council Jayne Allen, provide fun, educational play sessions for parents and carers with children aged 0-6.
“They are offered in various locations across the town and enable people to get together with their children for fun and exercise in a safe environment.
“Jayne thought it would be nice for those who attend the drop-in sessions to come together with the rest of their families for a fun and educational day out in the countryside, while promoting conservation of nature and the environment.
“A total of 67 people attended, including children aged from 10 weeks to 16 years. The day was a great success and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.”
The educational play sessions take place at various locations in Tamworth throughout the week, including:
Monday: 9am-11am – St Martin’s Church, Ellerbeck.
