Robin Hood rides into town…

July 11, 2014

Robin Hood and his Merry Men will be transforming the Castle Grounds into Sherwood Forest tomorrow (Saturday), with a wonderful open-air theatre performance.

Theatre company Illyria will be bringing its fresh take on the legend of Robin Hood to the Castle Grounds tomorrow – and the production will even include an archery competition involving the entire audience!

The company has performed throughout the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, the USA and Canada, as well as winning four international ‘Best Performance’ awards for its fresh approach to Shakespeare, the quality of its shows for families and the originality of its adaptations of classic tales.

Robin Hood is a show for all the family. It was first performed in 2007 and remains one of Illyria’s most popular productions. The adaptation is written in fast-moving, easy-to-follow verse, and introduces all the well-loved characters including Robin Hood, Maid Marian, Little John, Friar Tuck and, of course, the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham.

Audiences are invited to bring their own seating, warm clothes and a picnic, but please do not bring and glass items or gazebos. Also, please do not bring any alcohol to the Castle Grounds, as there will be a licensed bar. Food will also be available on site. Gates open at 6pm and the performance starts at 6.30.

Tickets are priced at £10 and £8 for concessions. The show is suitable for ages five years and upwards. Tickets are available from Tamworth Information Centre in Corporation Street or by calling the Box Office on 01827 709618.
