Rail Misery for Commuters to Birmingham

Engineering work is taking place between Birmingham New Street and Tamworth / Coleshill Parkway closing all lines from Saturday.

Further engineering works around Wilnecote Station are due to begin on Saturday 15th February and last for a week. It is understood that part of the works include lowering the tracks at Wilnecote Station to allow further clearance under the Watling Street road bridge.

The work is taking place between 15th-23rd February and during this time, trains between Birmingham New Street and Derby will be diverted via Lichfield City. Journey times extended by up to 45 minutes and buses will run between Lichfield City and Tamworth.

The following disruptions will also be caused due to the works;

  • On Saturdays, trains between Cardiff Central / Birmingham New Street and Nottingham / Stansted Airport are replaced by buses between Birmingham New Street and Coleshill.
  • On Sundays trains between Cardiff Central / Birmingham New Street and Nottingham / Stansted Airport are replaced by buses between Birmingham New Street and Nuneaton.
  • From Monday to Friday, trains between Cardiff Central / Birmingham New Street and Nottingham / Stansted Airport will run hourly and are diverted between Birmingham New and Coleshill Parkway. Journey times will be extended by up to 40 minutes.
  • Due to the reduction in line capacity, London Midland services between Lichfield Trent Valley and Redditch will run to an amended timetable.
