Oliver’s wins pubs in bloom competition

AN HISTORIC town centre pub has been crowned the winner of this year’s Tamworth in Bloom pub competition.

Oliver’s in Lower Gungate was judged to be the blooming best in town for its beautiful hanging baskets at the front of the pub and in the courtyard.

Every pub in Tamworth was given the chance to compete for the top prize of gardening vouchers for the winning entry.

Oliver’s took the top prize for the huge amount of work which had gone into creating its beautiful baskets, which are all created from scratch by Doug Oliver, father of pub owner David Oliver.

Cllr Michelle Thurgood, Cabinet member for Housing & Waste Management, said: “Doug and David have put a lot of hard work and effort into making the pub look welcoming, with hanging baskets at the front of the building and throughout the courtyard and we would like to thank them for doing their bit to help make Tamworth bloom.”
