THE owners of the former Tavern in the Town pub on Corporation Street are looking for a new tenant or lessee to take on the premises after a planned £400,000 refurbishment.
The premises closed its doors to customers in September 2016 and is now owned by Star Pubs and Bars, which is part of the Heineken Company. Star purchased the premises from Punch Taverns as part of a 2,000 premises buy.
Plans for the premises include a new name, ‘The Crafty Two’ which is inspired by the ‘Tamworth Two’, Butch and Sundance, the two Tamworth pigs who escaped and went on the run!
The refurbishment of the premises will see the interior of the premises given a ‘rustic’ look, with lots of dark wood and industrial looking lighting.
Externally, there will be a beer garden, with a covered area to be enjoyed all year round.
In a document from the company, which has been seen by Tamworth Informed it says that their aim is to create a broader customer experience that will appeal to a wider range of client types, with an offer taking in cask ale, premium lager and fine spirit.
It goes on to say that the pub should set out its stall to attract a broad range of clientele; shoppers and workers, and females as well as males.
They say that their aim is to provide a tried and tested food offering, serving simple but delicious dishes including, hot pies, local pork pies, chili and paprika salami, gourmet sandwiches and toasties.
In the way of drinks, they plan to offer a great selection of drinks, including premium beers and craft ales as well as quality coffee.
A representative from Star Pubs and Bars told Tamworth Informed: “An extensive refurbishment will transform The Tavern in the Town into a rustic- style pub with a refreshed look and feel.
“Post-refurbishment the pub will open with its new name, The Crafty Two, which alludes to the great craft offer and the local story of the famous two Tamworth pigs that escaped and went on the run for two weeks.
“The refurbishment will introduce a brand-new garden area to appeal to a wide range of new customers, and attractive internal decorations will create a space where customers will be able to relax and enjoy a fantastic new food offer, enabled by a new kitchen.”
