Police investigate serious collision involving stolen vehicle on A5

POLICE have said that the A5 Westbound between Junction T7 (Toll road) and Turf Island (towards Cannock) will be closed until further notice whilst officers conduct an investigation into a serious collision that happened this afternoon.

Diversions have been put in place and drivers are asked to avoid the area.

The incident occurred at approximately 4.30pm this afternoon, following a police pursuit of a stolen Ford Fiesta ST3 Turbo which failed to stop when approached by police officers.

While on the A5 the Ford hit a Citroen Picasso with a female driver and three children on board. The driver and all three children have minor injuries.

The driver of the stolen vehicle has been arrested and taken into custody.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been informed.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses and any motorists with dashcam footage of the incident to contact 101 quoting incident 107/18/10.
