THE £21.5 million redevelopment of the Tinkers Green and Kerria estates has moved to the next stage, with the planning application submitted to Tamworth Borough Council.
The application proposes the demolition of 136 houses, bungalows, flats and maisonettes across Tinkers Green in Wilnecote and Kerria in Amington, to be replaced with 152 new modern homes. The plans show 108 homes planned for Tinkers Green and 44 in Kerria.
There are also proposals to upgrade the children’s play area at Tinkers Green, as well as provide a neighbourhood centre in Kerria.
Members of the public and other interested parties now have until April 16 to comment on the plans during the statutory consultation period. After the consultation has closed, the application will go before the council’s planning committee for a decision.
A developer will also be appointed, who will be involved in drawing up more detailed plans for the two estates.
If the redevelopment programme is approved by the planning committee, it will be the first new Tamworth council housing building project since the 1970s.
It is expected to take approximately six years to complete both estates, with Tinkers Green being redeveloped first.
