A TAMWORTH pensioner has been conned into handing over a large sum of money during a distraction burglary in the Glascote area.
The victim was approached by a man who claimed he had carried out work on a hedge which adjoined a neighbouring property. The offender told her that she would have to pay for skip hire.
The pensioner handed over a sum of money for the hire of the skip and was further distracted by the male asking questions; at this time a further sum of money was stolen.
Police have issued a warning for residents to be on guard following the incident, which took place last Friday (22 January) at around 220pm.
The offender is described as a white male of a ‘chubby’ build with a pot belly, aged in his 50s and wearing a brown jumper. He was seen in the area driving a silver coloured flat backed vehicle, with blacked out rear windows.
Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 417 of 22 January.
