Christmas comes early for local arts group and helps secure 2019 event

Friday, 21st December 2018

CHRISTMAS has come early for local arts group New urban era after being awarded a substantial grant from Arts Council England to develop the organisation and host the annual Tamworth urban arts and sports festival.

In 2019 Nue will host the annual festival with partners Community together CIC on the 22nd June.

A much-improved programme for the community to get involved will be made possible due to the funding including; Beatbox, Breakdance and Graffiti workshops which will be available to book early next year.

Other workshops will be available on the day from Clay Tree Dressing, to Screenprinting your own festival Tshirts.

The workshops will operate on fixed-fees and donations to take part. Nue surveyed the public and this was the general consensus. However, a generous subsidy will be in place due to the grant funding.

Vic Brown Events Organiser Says: “We are delighted with the decision from Arts Council England to fund Nue and that they believe in what we are doing.

“We have worked hard over the past 8 years to get to this position and must thank all the local groups and organisations who have helped us along the way.

“We are looking forward to working with our partners Community Together CIC, Tamworth Borough Council and local businesses to deliver next year’s events programme which will be a big improvement to previous years”.

On the lead up to the event, Nue will host workshops at a local school working with students to design the branding for the 2019 festival. Plans to paint a mural at Belgrave Lakes dance studio are also taking shape.

Nue will be inviting back some of the best artists who have painted at previous events to celebrate the new partnership with Arts Council England.  An open call for remaining spaces will be put out to other artists in January.

Lee Bates from Community together CIC says: “It’s been amazing to watch the journey Vic and New Urban Era have gone through over the past few years and all the hard work that goes into putting on such a good quality event.  Community Together CIC have been proud supporters and partners in the event because of the benefit it brings to arts and youth engagement across the town.  Vic will now have the confidence to develop further the fantastic benefit it will bring to the community.”

If your Business would like to support the 2019 event and be part of the promotion for the next six months, please contact Nue for more details on newurbanerauk@gmail.com.
