WARWICKSHIRE Police are appealing for informations n after a man was killed on the M42 near Tamworth yesterday.

At around 5.20pm last night (15 November) police were called to reports of a body in the road on the southbound carriageway of the M42 between junctions 10 and 9.

Emergency services attended the scene and found a red Mazda that is believed to have collided with the safety barrier. The body of a man was also found in the carriageway and a post mortem examination is due to take place in the coming days.

The motorway was closed while police and partner agencies investigated at the scene and ensured the safety of motorists.

Warwickshire Police Sergeant Leanne Mason said: “This was obviously a very sad incident, and the road was closed overnight while investigations took place. I know this caused long delays for a great many motorists, so I’d like to thank everyone for their patience.

“A thorough investigation continues today into the circumstances surrounding the death and as such, we would appeal for anyone who was travelling along that stretch of motorway at the time to come forward if they haven’t already.

“Officers are also keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage of the incident. Any information, no matter how small, may be significant in our investigation.”

Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 302 of 15 November.

THE M42 close to Tamworth is now fully open in both directions after it was closed last night (Wednesday) after a body was discovered.

Emergency services were called to the location at around 520pm yesterday, Wednesday 15 November, and police immediately closed the road between Junction 10 at Tamworth and 9 at Curdworth after a body was found in the carriageway.

The road fully re-opened to all traffic at around 6am this morning (Thursday) after investigation and recovery work took place.

At 10pm the latest update from Warwickshire Police was that the southbound carriageway was expected to be closed through the night and into this mornings rush hour to allow an extensive investigation to take place.

Clearly everyone involved has worked tirelessly to get the road re-opened.

Police have thanked everyone for their patience.

Our thoughts are with the family of the person involved and everyone involved in the incident.

THE M42 southbound, close to Tamworth, between junctions 10 and 9 is closed after reports of a body in the road.

At 10pm the latest update from Warwickshire Police was that the southbound carriageway was expected to be closed through the night and into tomorrow mornings rush hour. This is to allow an extensive investigation to take place.

The Northbound carriageway is open but traffic is moving slowly and there are delays on all surrounding routes, police have said.

Vehicles stuck in traffic on the southbound carriageway have begun to be turned around by Police. They have stated that this will take some time and they have thanked motorists for their patience.

A diversion has been set up to help motorists navigate around the route but the Highways Agency have asked people to avoid the area if possible.

In a statement the Highways Agency said: “Road users are advised to follow the ‘solid triangle’ diversion symbols.

“At the M42 exit at J10 towards the A5 westbound (Watling Street). Continue along the A5 westbound towards the A453 (Bonehill Road).

“Take the exit to the A453 southbound and continue to the junction with the A446 (Bassetts Pole).

“Take the exit to the A446 eastbound and continue to the M42 and re-join at J9.”

M42 Closure

WARWICKSHIRE Police is appealing for information in relation to a fatal collision that took place at approximately 5:15pm on Thursday 9 November on the B4102, Park Lane, Nuneaton.

A Black Nissan X-trail left the road and came to a stop in a field.

A male passenger in his 20s was taken to hospital where he sadly died due to injuries sustained.

The driver of the vehicle, a 37-year-old man from the Barle Grove area of Birmingham was arrested at the scene.

WARWICKSHIRE Police are appealing for help to locate a wanted man with connections to Atherstone.

Lee Hiatt is currently wanted on suspicion of a number of burglaries within the Warwickshire and Staffordshire areas.

The 44-year-old has short, dark-coloured hair and is described as being of medium build and around 5ft 9in tall.

Anyone who has seen Hiatt or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101.

POLICE in Warwickshire have swooped on a cannabis grow in Atherstone Town Centre following information from members of the public.

Based on intelligence from the local community, Atherstone Police raided an address in Atherstone Town Centre where a Cannabis grow was found in the loft space.

The female occupant of the property was arrested and dealt with for the offence.

The occupant had erected an elaborate operation where the plants were allowed to grow. A number of mature cannabis plants were seized together with the equipment that had been installed.

PC TEW from Atherstone SNT said: “I would urge members of the public to report any concerns or suspicious behaviour to the Police. As local officers we will actively deal with any offenders in the town and surrounding areas. Any concerns can be reported to the Police via 101 or anonymously [to crimestoppers] on 0800 555111”

A NUNEATON man has been charged in connection with an incident at a bowling alley in St. David’s Way, Bermuda Park, Nuneaton on Sunday, 22 October.

Police were called to the MFA Bowl in Bermuda Park at 2.30pm on Sunday after reports that a man had entered the building with a firearm.

David Clarke, aged 53, of Ryde Avenue, Nuneaton, has been charged the following offences:

  • two counts of false imprisonment
  • one count of criminal damage
  • two counts of possession of a bladed article
  • one count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
  • two counts of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Clarke has been remanded in custody to appear at Leamington Magistrates court this morning (Tuesday 24 October).

The building was in lockdown for more than four hours before armed police went in and arrested Clarke.

No one was injured during the incident and police had confirmed early on that the incident was not terrorism-related.

WARWICKSHIRE Police have confirmed tonight (Monday) at 7pm that the cordon has now been lifted around Bermuda Park in Nuneaton following yesterday’s incident.

They have stated that any vehicles that were left there overnight due to the incident can now be collected.

Chief Superintendent Alex Franklin-Smith said: “This incident took place on a busy Sunday afternoon at a location where many families were enjoying what should have been a fun-filled start to their half-term holidays.

“I would again like to thank the many people who were caught up in this situation for their patience and cooperation while we responded to the incident. I’d also like to thank local businesses for their support.

“Over the next few days the local community can expect to see continued high visible patrols by Warwickshire Police as part of our efforts to provide ongoing reassurance”.

Police are continuing to question a 53-year-old man who was arrested following the incident.

POLICE in North Warwickshire are warning residents to be on their guard after a number of incidents in Kingsbury over the weekend.

A number of sheds, garden buildings have been targeted as well a a vehicle on a driveway.

A quantity of tools, including power tools have been taken from some of the locations but at a number of addresses, the offenders have left empty handed. They have however left a trail of damage and destruction.

The full details of the incidents over the weekend can be found below:

Incident 125 of 21 October - Between 12noon on 14 October and 8am on 21 October, offenders entered the rear garden of a home in Mill Crescent, Kingsbury and then forced the lock off the garden shed. Once inside, the offenders carried out a search but nothing appears to have been stolen.

Incident 127 of 21 October - During the night of 20 into 21 October, offenders jumped over fencing into the garden of a home in Mill Crescent, Kingsbury and then broke into 2 sheds. The offenders cut the padlocks of the shed doors and carried out a search but left empty handed.

Incident 191 if 21 October - During the same night, offenders entered the rear garden of another home in Mill Crescent and broke into the shed. Drills, a circular saw and a pipe bender were stolen.

Incident 333 of 21 October - During the night of 20 into 21 October, offenders entered the rear garden of a home in Bracebridge Road, Kingsbury after travelling over fields. The offenders then forced open a summer house, causing damage, but nothing appears to have been stolen from inside.

Incident 147 of 22 October - During the night of 21 into 22 October, offenders entered the rear garden of a home in Tame Bank, Kingsbury and then jemmied the locks off the garden shed. Once inside, the offenders stole numerous power tools.

Incident 151 of 21 October - During the night of 20 into 21 October, offenders broke into a Ford vehicle parked on the driveway of a home in Fircroft and carried out a search of the glovebox. Nothing was stolen.

Incident 234 of 21 October - During the night of 20 into 21 October, offenders entered a vehicle parked on the driveway of a home in Sorrell Drive, Kingsbury and stole cash from the centre console.

Incident 266 of 21 October - Again on the same night, offenders entered a vehicle parked on the driveway of another home in Fircroft. The offenders emptied the glovebox but nothing was stolen.
