New Mayor welcomed in Church service

NEW Mayor for Tamworth, Cllr Maureen Gant was welcomed on Sunday when a church service was help in her honour.

Cllr Gant who has previously been the Mayor of Tamworth was present at the service with her husband and also former Mayor, Kenneth Gant.

The service, held at the Church of St Edithas in the Town Centre was led by new Vicar, Revd Alan Gordan.

Joshua Powell from Tamworth Sea Cadets was also named as the Mayor’s Cadet for the year.

Tamworth Infomred wish the incoming Mayor all the best for her year in office.

Cllr Gant has said the following in relation to Sunday: “I wish to thank everyone for attending my Mayor’s Sunday service, ably conducted by our new vicar Alan Gordon, also Simon Clark the deputy Lord Lieutenant, John Leivesley the High Sherrif, and Air Vice Marshall Broadbridge and his lady, civic dignitaries, family and friends.

“A special thank you to Joshua Powell the Mayor’s Cadet, along with many members of the sea cadets. Again the standard bearers made me feel very proud, and their turnout was immaculate.

“I wish to thank  the Bolehall Swifts Club for providing an excellent buffet, served by a courteous staff, finally I wish to thank Lin Street the civic officer of the Tamworth Borough Council who made all the arrangements

“You all made my day a very special one which I will always remember.”
