Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle on the M42

A PEDESTRIAN has died after being hit by a car on the M42 this morning.

The section of the road is closed northbound between J10 (A5, Tamworth) and J11 (A444, Appleby Magna) due to the incident which occurred shortly before 5.30am this morning, Wednesday 9 January.

A Spokesperson for Warwickshire Police has said: “Police are currently dealing with a fatal collision on the M42 in Warwickshire. Earlier this morning (Wednesday 9 January) police were informed a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle on the motorway.

“Sadly, the pedestrian died as a result of the collision.

“The northbound carriageway between junction 10 and 11, at Tamworth, is currently closed and one lane is closed southbound.

“The road is expected to remain closed until later this morning.”

Warwickshire Police, West Midlands Ambulance Services and Highways England Traffic Officers are on the scene. The road is likely to be closed for several hours and may impact on the morning peak travel period.

In addition lane 2 is closed on the southbound carriageway to allow incident screens to be erected to for Police to carry out scene investigation work, this is causing Long delays between J13 of the A42 and J10 of the M42.

Road users may wish to use the A38 at J28 of the M1 if heading South.

Traffic is being diverted and should follow the hollow triangle symbol. Exit at J10 and take A5 eastbound. At the junction with the A444 turn left and head north to M42 J11.

At this time.   Highways England are estimating the road to reopen at around 10.30am.
