Local housebuilder teams up with Royal Life Saving Society for Summer Water Safety Campaign

Monday, 20th August 2018

A TAMWORTH housebuilder has joined forces with the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) for its annual Summer Water Safety Campaign.

Redrow Homes Midlands is working with the RLSS to raise awareness of the dangers of swimming in open water, and to offer some simple advice to make sure people are enjoying the summer weather safely – in the form of five animated tips.

The Redrow Homes Amington development at Tamworth, situated off Mercian Way, sees the Coventry Canal run through its northern boundary, and is one of many developments around the country located near water.

Redrow Homes is the first housebuilder to team up directly with the RLSS, and together they are hoping to educate people on the risks associated with swimming in open water. The campaign has launched during the summer holidays, which can be a particularly dangerous time as children are out of school and sometimes unsupervised.

Vicki Hartley-Kite, Director of Communications & Public Affairs at the Royal Life Saving Society, said: “We have been running the Summer Water Safety Campaign for several years and it’s fantastic to be working with a company of Redrow’s size to help raise further awareness.

“It’s particularly tempting to go for a swim during the warm summer months, but people often don’t think before they get into the water. In the last two weeks alone, the media has reported at least 10 UK citizens losing their lives to drowning. By publicising these tips we hope to stop any more tragically preventable deaths. We want people to enjoy water, but safely and sensibly – using their common sense and listening to advice.”

Pauline Turnbull, Sales Director for Redrow Homes Midlands, added: “Throughout the warm summer months, it can be very tempting to cool off in open water. However, it’s important that people only take a dip where it’s safe to do so and to ensure they stay safe. With water close to many of our developments, including Amington Garden Village, we wanted to share some key water safety guidelines for local people.

“We take the safety of residents on our developments and of people in the surrounding communities very seriously, so we are hopeful that local people will take precautions before jumping in, and are able to enjoy water safely.”

The aim of the RLSS’ campaign is to promote a common-sense approach to water safety, with helpful advice rather than issuing strict instructions. Redrow has produced five animated GIFs based on the five campaign tips and both organisations will be sharing some of these on social media throughout the summer.

Amington Garden Village offer a choice of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties at the sought-after Amington Garden Village development. Located just three miles from Tamworth’s town centre, and also within easy reach of the A5, M42 and M6 Toll, the development offers a rural setting with excellent commuter links.
