TAMWORTH residents aged between 14 and 25 are being given the opportunity to keep fit while learning an interesting and exciting new skill, completely FREE of charge for 12 months.
Tamworth Borough Council’s Active Tamworth initiative has teamed up with ShapeShifters Pole Fitness to offer free aerial hoop fitness classes on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons.
Sessions have been funded for 12 months with external funding from the District Youth Fund and take place at ShapeShifters Pole Fitness studio above the Tamworth food Co-op in Church Street.
The aerial hoop is a circular steel apparatus rigged from the ceiling, giving participants the opportunity to execute dynamic tricks, spins and swings. The hoop provides the perfect frame for an endless variety of balances, transitions and routines.
Classes will focus on conditioning, tricks, combinations, floor work and routines which will help improve fitness, strength and flexibility, as well as building confidence and self esteem and providing the opportunity to meet new people.
No previous experience is necessary. Sessions take place from 4.45pm to 5.45pm on Wednesdays and 2pm to 3pm on Saturdays. For more information, and to book a place, visit www.shapeshifterspolefitness.co.uk.
Classes will be free of charge for 12 months. Minimal fees will then be required to sustain the project longer term.
Active Tamworth has been set up to work towards the goal of improving the health and wellbeing of Tamworth residents by increasing participation in physical activity.
Cllr Stephen Doyle, Cabinet member for Communities and Public Health, said: “Improving the health and wellbeing of the residents of Tamworth is one of our top priorities and one of the ways we can do this is by securing external funding to provide activities that will help us work towards this aim.
“The aerial hoop sessions give people the opportunity to keep fit while learning a new skill and meeting new people at the same time. We hope residents take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.”
