Incident causes A5 traffic chaos

October 5, 2018

A POLICE incident on the A5 in Tamworth has caused traffic chaos this morning, Friday 5 October.

Officers from Staffordshire Police had lane one of the Westbound carriageway, between Marlborough Way and Ventura Park closed off, close to the Kettlebrook Road footbridge.

The incident was first noticed by one of our readers at around 8.15am and at 9.15am, the delays were still present on surrounding roads.

The lane closure had a knock-on effect on surrounding roads, with traffic on Marlborough Way backing up past Morrisons, heading Northbound.

Officers could be seen with one lane closed off and what appeared to be a black bag.

Staffordshire Police have confirmed that they were called as a car had broke down in a live lane. Unfortunately, the driver did not have breakdown cover and had locked his keys in the car by accident.

The incident was first reported on AA Travel at 6.20am.
