Hunt for escaped prisoner Haroon Ahmed

Friday, 29th May 2015

STAFFORDSHIRE police are still actively seeking 26-year-old Haroon Ahmed (pictured) who is from the Derby area.

Haroon escaped from HMP Dovegate, near Marchington, at around 4.15pm on Wednesday 27 May, where he is serving a sentence for robbery.

He is described as Asian, 6ft tall with a thin build and short black hair in a crew cut. He was wearing jeans and a grey t-shirt but it’s likely he has changed his clothing.

Police suspect Haroon is in the Derby area where he has numerous connections.

Officers involved in the search for him yesterday (Thurs) arrested his brother, Majeed Ahmed, 25, of Clarence Road, Derby, and have charged him with assisting a prisoner in escaping from prison. He has been released on bail to appear before magistrates in Burton on Thursday 25 June.

A black Volkswagen Golf was also recovered as part of the investigation and has been subject to a detailed forensic examination.

Extensive inquiries to trace Haroon will continue until he is arrested.

Due to his conviction for a violent robbery we advise members of the public not to approach him and to instead ring 999.

If you know where Haroon is please contact Staffordshire Police on 101.
