Woman and Man arrested following fire which killed four children

OFFICERS from Staffordshire Police have made two arrests this afternoon (Feb 8) following a house fire in Stafford on Tuesday where four children died.

Following an update from investigators into the probable cause of the fire police have arrested a 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence.

The arrests were made at around 1.30pm. The man and woman are in custody.

The children that tragically died in the fire were Riley Holt, aged eight, Keegan Unitt, aged six, Tilly Rose Unitt, aged four, and Olly Unitt, aged three.

Emergency services rushed to the home on Sycamore Lane in the Highfields area of Stafford at 2.40am on Tuesday 5 February due to the report of a house fire.

A 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, escaped with a two-year-old boy by jumping from a first-floor window.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police has said: “This incident has had a huge impact on the community and we understand there will be confusion and a demand for information.

“However, we would urge people not to speculate as to what may have happened and appeal for patience as the investigation continues.

“We will provide further updates as soon as we are able to.”
