Man arrested on suspicion of grooming offence in Tamwoth

POLICE have confirmed that a 54-year-old man from Tamworth has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to meet a child following grooming.

Officers attended an address in Glascote Heath this afternoon (June 9) at around 4.30pm following reports a man had been detained by members of the public.

This man is now in custody.

Detective Inspector Emily Clews, of Staffordshire Police, said: “We want to reassure the community that a man is now in custody in connection with these alleged offences.

“We urge members of the public not to take matters into their own hands or speculate regarding the identity of the individual involved or what may have happened. Following arrest legal proceedings are active and such activity can compromise the strength of a case when it is presented before the courts. We will continue to update you and want to reassure you we are actively patrolling your local area.”
