Get yourself a healthy taster at National fitness day

Wednesday, 24th September 2014

If you fancy getting fit this autumn or increasing your exercise levels, why not use National Fitness Day this Friday (September 26th) as your spring board to healthier you?

And to encourage more people to take up exercise on National Fitness Day, Tamworth Borough Council’s Sports Development Team (Active Tamworth) has teamed up with Lifestyle Fitness (based at Namco Station, near the bowling alley).

Fitness instructors from both Tamworth Borough Council and Lifestyle Fitness will be offering free exercise taster sessions in the Castle Grounds this Friday – free of charge.

The taster sessions include:

  • Kettlebell sessions: 10.30am to 11.15am in the tennis courts
  • GRIT interval training session from 12.30pm-1pm  in the tennis courts
  • For those that want to take things a little easier there is also a free walking session from 10am-11am, starting from Dave Owens Cycles in the castle grounds.

The free walking sessions will continue all year round on Monday and Friday mornings between 10am and 11am. For more information on these, please contact Dave Owen on 07896 504141.

This year’s National Fitness Day is the largest celebration of physical activity in the UK – and hundreds of clubs, parks, leisure centres and gyms are either opening their doors to welcome you for free or holding events, similar to the ones taking place in Tamworth’s Castle Grounds.

Councillor Stephen Doyle, Cabinet Member for Community Development, said: “This is a great opportunity to find out what health and fitness initiatives are available in Tamworth and the best way to increasing your level of fitness. I’ve recently taken up the challenge to improve my own fitness and wellbeing, it’s never easy but the results are worth the effort.

“We all know there are a huge amount of benefits to getting regular exercise, both from a health perspective and people’s well-being and improved quality of life. Hopefully these taster sessions will encourage people to take part in more regular exercise, have fun and meet likeminded people.”
