HUNDREDS of community projects are having a real impact on Staffordshire people with funding and backing from county councillors.
Outdoor gym equipment for young people, upgrades for a local community centre, a gazebo for a local charity for fund raising events, and training of volunteers for support groups are amongst the projects funded through the Staffordshire Local Community Fund.
Last year the fund supported 522 community projects from across the county with organisations and groups receiving £439,633. Now, the scheme is accepting bids for projects running in 2018/19.
Each county councillor will receive an allocation of £7,500 towards funding for their local area and chooses which projects to fund. The scheme, which has been in place since 2009, has supported a broad range of community organisations including sports clubs, scouts and guides youth groups, older people’s social clubs, safety schemes, arts groups and more.
In Tamworth, local groups to benefit included Tamworth Boxing club for new windows, Tamworth Pantomime Company and Tamworth & Lichfield Sea Cadets to name just a few.
Gill Heath, Cabinet Member for Communities at Staffordshire County Council said: “This is a great Fund that is making a real difference in local communities, helping lots of groups access funding to help get their projects and events off the ground.
“Lots of the projects are helping improve people’s lives from promoting healthy and active lifestyles, bringing communities together to providing activities and equipment for young people. If you think you could make a difference in your community and the funding would help then please get in touch with your local county councillor.”
Groups and individuals can also raise funds through the new Crowdfund Staffordshire website which allows them to showcase their project to the thousands of people who regularly donate to good causes online. The platform also includes free advice, coaching, webinars and workshops to help make sure their fundraising campaign is a success.
Also for projects that help children and families directly, the £50k Children and Families fund will match fund some projects up to £5K if they get support from the community. People can start fundraising today at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/funds/crowdfund-staffordshire
