Tamworth’s Sea Cadets, Air Cadets, Army Cadets and Scouts are now almost £1,000 better off each after former Mayor John Garner handed over the cash he raised for them during his year in office.
Each year, the Mayor of Tamworth supports a charity and raises money for it by holding fundraising events throughout the year. Mr Garner, who was Mayor last year, chose the four uniformed youth organisations to support as an example to the young people of Tamworth.
During his year as Mayor, Mr Garner raised a total of £3,994, which was split equally between the four organisations. Mr Garner handed over the money to representatives from the Sea Cadets, Air Cadets, Army Cadets and Scouts at a short ceremony at the town Hall on Friday.
He said: “Everywhere I went during my term as deputy Mayor, I was impressed by the many youth organisations I saw and wanted to support these organisations in Tamworth. The commitment and positive attitude of the Sea, Air and Army Cadets and the Scouts is a fine example to all the young people of Tamworth of what they can achieve.
“I am very pleased that during my Mayoral year, I was able to support and promote these wonderful organisations and to raise money for them through various events. I am delighted to be able to hand these cheques over to the four organisations.”
