Festive fun for pensioner group – thanks to council grant

Tuesday, 1st December 2015

CHRISTMAS came early for a group of senior citizens in Tamworth after they were treated to a festive coach trip, complete with three-course meal and entertainment – thanks to a grant from Tamworth Borough Council.

The 44 members of the Over 60s Group went by coach to The Punch Bowl on Bridgnorth for a festive turkey and tinsel afternoon – which included a slap-up meal, singing, dancing and a game of bingo.

The group meets fortnightly at the Royal Navy Club in Tamworth for socialising, bingo and raffles. The coach hire for last week’s festive trip was funded by a £500 grant from Tamworth Borough Council’s Voluntary and Community Grants scheme, which provides support for organisations to develop and provide services for residents of Tamworth.

Trip organiser Jill Tarpey said: “Everyone had an absolutely brilliant time – they were singing and dancing and we even had a raffle on the coach. We are very grateful to Tamworth Borough Council for the grant which allowed us to hire the coach to take the members out on this trip.

Cllr Rob Pritchard, Chairman of the Cabinet Grants Committee, said: “I am delighted that we were able to fund the Over 60s Club in their trip to Bridgnorth and delighted that everyone had such a great time.

“Tamworth Borough Council is keen to support as many local voluntary organisations, sports clubs and community groups as possible. The groups are carrying out projects to make Tamworth a better place, help local residents or just give people something to do.”
