THE Member of Parliament for neighbouring Lichfield, met local residents who face danger each day as they drive into and from the A38 today, Saturday 8 December.
Michael Fabricant MP told Tamworth Informed: “It’s like having a house driveway which leads directly onto the M1 with no ramp!”
Below is the view the residents face when approaching their property.
Michael continued: “Every day residents have to drive onto the A38 in the face of traffic often travelling in excess of 80mph, then turn a full 90 degrees to the left and accelerate away. Travelling home, they have to slow right down as heavy trucks bear down on them and again make a sharp and slow turn to the left to get into their drives.
“I decided to visit my constituent Albert McWilliams who had contacted me and see for myself the problems experienced by him and his neighbours. Aiming into his or his neighbours’ driveway is not easy. As I had to slow down from the legal limit, 70mph, to around 4mph to turn hard left into the driveway, I could see cars in my rear view mirror approaching me at over the speed limit.
“There have already been a number of accidents on this stretch of road and I shall be contacting the Highways Agency and the police to see how a major accident can be avoided.”
The stretch of road lies between the Catholme and Barton turn offs on the A38 northbound carriageway.
