Wednesday, 23rd May 2018

STAFFORDSHIRE has welcomed members from England’s World Cup squad to the county as they arrived at St George’s Park to begin preparation for the World Cup next month.

The players began arriving on Monday and the first full training session was expected to kick off at the East Staffordshire ground yesterday (Tuesday).

Philip Atkins, Leader of Staffordshire County Council said: “Staffordshire is hugely proud to be home to the FA Centre, which is not only home to the country’s 28 national teams but it is also a fantastic education facility and national attraction.

“We are proud to be welcoming members of this World Cup squad to the county today and I know people across Staffordshire will be cheering on the whole team at their temporary home here in Staffordshire and away in the competition in Russia next month.”

England’s first game of the World Cup is on June 18 against Tunisia, meaning most of the squad will get almost a month of preparation.
