DRAYTON Manor Theme Park is celebrating after picking up six accolades at the prestigious Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards, including an Outstanding Contribution Award.
The much-loved family attraction scooped the awards in a special lunch ceremony that it hosted in its Tower Suite on Monday 16th November.
The family-run theme park picked up Gold in the Best Tourism Event of the Year category for the launch of its £2.5 million Thomas Land™ expansion, which saw thousands of people descend on the park to celebrate the official opening of the improved attraction. Europe’s only Thomas Land this year increased in size by 40% and welcomed a host of new rides and attractions. Judges felt that there were some interesting events entered this year, but Drayton Manor Theme Park’s launch of its Thomas Land attraction was consistently strong across all judging criteria in this category, just giving it the edge over the other entrants.
The park’s second Gold of the day came in the Access for All category for providing exemplary access for all visitors for the third year running. Drayton Manor was commended by the judges for investing in ‘both the facilities and its staff to ensure accessibility for as wide a range of groups as possible. Tailoring of the experience to individuals’ needs was a stand-out feature of the application.’
The park also scooped Silver in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year category, which is open to visitor attractions with more than 50,000 visitors a year.
As if that wasn’t enough, the park was also Highly Commended in the Large Hotel of the Year category, for the on-site four-star Drayton Manor Hotel complex and the Business Tourism Award, which acknowledges the huge importance of the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector of the tourism industry.
On top of all of this, Colin Bryan, CEO of Drayton Manor Theme Park and son of George and Vera Bryan OBE, who first opened the gates at Drayton Manor Theme Park in April 1950, accepted a special Outstanding Contribution Award on behalf of himself and his parents for all the family has done for Staffordshire over the past 65 years.
Colin Bryan, CEO of Drayton Manor Theme Park, said: “We are thrilled to have received this level of recognition for our contributions to tourism in Staffordshire. To pick up two Golds, a Silver and to be highly commended twice is a real testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here at Drayton Manor to providing the best services and facilities to our visitors.
“The icing on the cake for us as a family was scooping the Outstanding Contribution Award, in recognition of my parents’ commitment to tourism in the county. They lived and breathed Drayton Manor and their passion and determination enabled them to transform a disused site into what has today become one of the UK’s leading family attractions. We are so proud and thrilled to accept this accolade on their behalf in our 65th anniversary year; it’s the perfect end to a momentous year for the park.”
The Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards are an annual celebration of tourism in the county, which reward entrants on their commitment to delivering excellent customer service, training and skills for employees, sustainability and environment; along with the entrants’ proactivity and dedication to best practice, quality of service and product.
