STAFFORDSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service is wishing residents a Happy New Year while asking them to make sure 2019 is not the SAME Again.
The wish comes as part of the relaunch of the SAME campaign which aims to highlight the four factors that increase the likelihood of someone dying in a fire: smoking, alcohol, mobility and being elderly.
These factors have continued to be present in serious house fires throughout 2018 and so the Service is urging people to be aware of SAME this year so they don’t see a repeat of these calls.
Director of Prevent and Protect Glynn Luznyj said: “This is the time of year when people are making their New Year’s resolutions so why not make fire safety one of yours? Why not promise to make sure your loved ones are safe from fire in their homes by recommending anyone affected by these factors for a Safe and Well Visit?
“We have been to so many incidents involving smoking and elderly people in 2018, some of which the occupiers were fortunate to escape without serious injury, which could easily have been the case.
“Please check if your loved ones are affected by the SAME factors and if they are call our FREE Community Advice Team for information and to recommend them for a Safe and Well visit. Please also ensure they know you have put them forward for a visit.”
