Dancers and teachers can get en pointe at Royal Ballet studios

Birmingham Royal Ballet

DANCERS and dance instructors of all genres are being invited to spend the day with world-class professionals from Birmingham Royal Ballet as part of a unique project led by Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts & Events team.

The Company is opening the doors of its newly-refurbished city studios to Tamworth dancers and teachers for an inspirational day of dance and creative development opportunities.

Taking place at the Clore Learning Studio from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 19th, the development day will be inspired by the production of Romeo and Juliet, which the Company is performing in 2016 as part of events to celebrate Shakespeare’s legacy in the 400th anniversary year of his death.

Activities will be led by experienced dance artist Liz Foster and will give people the unique opportunity to participate in a ballet technique class, as well as working together to share good practice and inspire future practice. Participants will also get a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of Birmingham Royal Ballet dancers in their daily class.

The event is open to dancers and teachers of all genres over the age of 18, all in the fabulous recently-refurbished studios. It is free of charge to attend, but participants must make their own way to the studios in Thorp Street at their own expense. Places must be booked in advance using the link at http://artist-development-day.eventbrite.co.uk

The Birmingham Royal Ballet development day is one of a series of free courses and workshops being organised by the Arts & Events team as part of this year’s I Am Tamworth project. Funded by Arts Council England, the initiative aims to encourage participation in the arts at all levels.

The workshops and courses are being delivered under the I Am Development strand of the project and are designed to help creative people and arts groups further develop their skills.

Courses are available in a range of areas, from business basics to fundraising, and take place throughout September and October. They vary in length from two hours to four weeks and are designed to equip people with the tools they need to develop their creativity further.

Some are aimed at teaching artists and creative people the essential skills they need to start and run a business, while others will help community arts groups to improve and expand; focusing on areas such as recruiting and managing volunteers, legislation and how to raise funds.

More general courses in customer service and safeguarding vulnerable people are also available.

Details of all the courses, and links to book places, can be found at www.tamworthassemblyrooms.co.uk/i-am-tamworth/452-i-am-development, but here is a general overview of what’s still available:
