Collision at Overwoods Road junction with Trinity Road
A COLLISION at the junction of Overwoods Road and Trinity Road is causing delays this afternoon.
The collision, just out of the Tamworth Borough involves a Car and an HGV.
The collision is one of many at the junction which is known as an accident black spot.
It is understood that earlier in the year a petition was submitted to Warwickshire County Council to improve conditions at the junction.
More details to follow.

How many more people are going to be hurt or worse before the powers that be (whether it’s the council, highway authority or whoever) do something about this junction?
when will something be done about this road? Hope all involved are ok
Terrible junction, hope there all ok
It’s about time traffic lights were installed! How many more accidents have to happen!
Hope everyone was ok in today’s accident. Something needs to be done now about this junction …. about time the council / highways acted .. do it now b4 someone else has to loose thier lives . Xx
Lost my Son, Sister and nephew at this junction year and a half ago, My lads mum has worked really hard getting petitions signed to get something done yet they do nothing, and now,,,, another accident! As already end stated by many, how many more?
That was really tragic. Sorry for your loss. There is clearly a problem pulling out at that junction and it needs to be addressed. Bloody disgusting that nothing has been done yet, resulting, in yet another accident. 😡
The road is too fast for cars to pull out of a stop junction into traffic needs traffic lights !!!! When will someone listen !!!
I signed the petition last yr somethin needs doing asap how many more lives are gonna be taken or ppl injured before somethings done about it xx
I signed that petition that got ignored that junction claimed the life of a friend her teenage son and nephew in one collision just before Xmas 2013 maybe the council will listen now
I think it falls on deaf ears.
That junction is only going to get busier with the new housing there building right next to it! Something needs to be done!
To keep seeing these stories makes me sick to the stomach, brings that horrendous night flooding back every time, we have to live with this for the rest of our lives, please don’t make someone else’s world fall apart. It’s about time council started putting lives before money 😡
Again?
Terrible junction! The herald website suggests that all have minor injuries only. Thank goodness!
That’s a terrible road we use that junction every day and the speed some cars and lorries go down there is ridiculous. Something needs to be done. Thoughts with those involved x
Hope ppl that are involved are ok xxx
Same junction still not sorted
How do accidents happen at this junction?
It’s a normal road junction like anywhere else….. Hope accident isn’t to bad and time there was some sort of lights to stop this.
If they don’t want to install traffic lights they need to at least reduce the speed limit and put speed cameras (that work!) in each direction by the junction. I signed the petition, does there have to be more precious lives lost before they act?! Cars and lorries go way to fast. Hope all involved in today’s accident are ok
I don’t understand, you can see both ways at the junction. And I’m sure the road is 60mph? Doesn’t seem like a dangerous road to me 😕 you can see the cars coming to assess the speed they are doing xx
As far as I’m aware this is the second accident at this junction. Both in the last 18 months. I’ve lived off overwoods road for nearly 27 years and it has never been a accident point until now.
Lorry’s do come down at a speed at times but if stopped and waiting to come out onto trinity Rd you can actually see clearly so it’s got to be human error in my opinion.
Walked past it coming home from work scary
😤how many accident have to happen before something is done to slow that road down or traffic lights 😡
Stay away from the entrance into wilnecote you normally go Emma Fitzpatrick
well said JJ Smith
I signed the petition a few months ago, after the last one. Enough is enough, something has to be done now by the council.
Never had a problem fortunately at this junction . Use it most days. Be alert. Far more dangerous Islands on Tamworth
People not paying attention reading traffic speed wrong on phone if in doubt wait come on it’s good vision in both directions
People in cars don’t respect the lorries. I’ve seen so many people risk their lives and others just to over take a lorry. The road is safe. It’s the people who aren’t respecting other drivers!
Just to state a fact, this road has been deemed a dangerous road. Yes visibility may be ok now but when it gets dark or the bushes start to over grow its a different matter.
You can see clearly both ways at that junction, unfortunately a lot of people can’t judge speed very well and take chances. I’ve had people do that to me when I’ve been coming home from planters.
The junction is clear enough but most drivers on Trinity road race down that road at 60mph or more!!! It really needs something to make people slow down. If not traffic lights then there should be at least a speed limit in place. This would also help people coming out of Planters where we had plenty accidents in the past
It is a national speed limit road so those travelling at 60mph are not doing anything wrong.
My point exactly really. 60mph may just not be appropriate for that stretch of road. Other roads have 40mph limits so why not this one ?
Put a sign up with whatever number you want on it people will still do as fast as they like
40mph is usually implemented in more built up areas. There are a small number of turnings off this road & no residential properties along that stretch so its not really necessary. Drivers just need to be more patient at the junctions when pulling into national speed limit roads.
Warwickshire council wake up and do something about this before more lives are lost
I drive down this road every day & the number of people who pull out into oncoming traffic is unbelievable. I agree that it is an accident prone junction, but not always due to the speed of drivers travelling down Trinity Road.
^same here, I agree!
I drive this junction most days and can not understand why there’s so many accidents. The road is too fast there but it’s not hindered by an obstructive view of the traffic from any direction!. Obviously some kind of traffic calming needs to be put there tho to slow drivers to a sensible speed.
Those red stripes are supposed to be traffic calming measures at that junction. Unfortunately all they do is make some drivers go faster to get over them quicker.
Tbh ive never noticed those but I’m not a fast driver myself. I always have the kids with me when going that way so I’m super careful and don’t pull onto the main Rd unless 100 percent happy that I have enough room. But when driving from Planters I have had people pull out on me at a stupidly close distance.
I used that road every day between Jan 2001 to Nov 2005. I lost count of the number of times someone pulled out on me going to and from work in Coleshill, so it’s not a new phenomenon. The issue is people taking chances, whether it’s pulling out of the junction or idiots overtaking. You can’t protect people from stupidity.
I agree Janice. Some drivers are idiots.
It’s a very deceptive and dangerous junction. When driving towards J10 with Planters on your right, the bushes on the left obstruct the signpost indicating that a left hand turning is coming up. They need to be cut back. Also these bushes affect the driver’s view when pulling out of Overwoods Road to turn right towards Planters’ direction. Something MUST be done. CRAIG TRACEY is the Warwickshire MP and needs to sort this out as this road falls under Warwickshire borough I believe.

Agreed . the three people that died there in 2013 was three too many. Let’s slow down and put lives before speed
Hope those involved are ok xx
As far as I’m aware this is the second accident at the junction in the last 3 years. I’ve lived off overwoods road for nearly 27 years and it’s never been thought of as a accident prone junction. Lorry’s do come down at a speed sometimes, but if you are stationery waiting on overwoods Rd to pull out, you can see. So I think in my opinion the problems are human error.
Obviously the red stripe traffic calming is totally ineffectual, all that makes people do is go faster to get over them quicker.
Yep I use this junction twice a day I really don’t understand the issue it’s perfectly visible. It must be down to a lack of patience and concentration.
Whether the accidents are due to human error or not something needs doing to stop these accidents happening, yes people make poor judgements, yes lorries and cars both break the speed limit on that road, that’s never going to change until they are made to, hence traffic calming measures need putting in place so they have no choice but to wait or slow down.
Totally agree with you Angie and will support this every way I can.
Totally agree with you Angie and will support this every way I can.
If people would stop pulling out into reasonable flowing traffic and then continuing to drive in 3rd gear then there will be many more terrible accidents, a lorry travelling at 40mph needs a lot longer to slow down (I’m not a lorry driver).
I use the road most morning and have plenty of people pulling out and not keeping up with the traffic flow.
