HUNDREDS of jobs are to be created in Tamworth as work to extend Centurion Park has now begun.
You may remember that back in March we reported that developer St Modwen had submitted a detailed planning application to extend Centurion Park.
The plans which were approved by North Warwickshire Borough Council in July are now starting to become a reality as work gets underway.
Outline planning consent was granted in June 2014 to allow the 20 acre site to come forward for employment uses in order to build on the success of the existing adjacent units, which are let to a range of businesses. This year, St Modwen submitted plans to create two new industrial buildings sized at 52,500sq ft to 157,000sq ft.
This news comes after it was revealed that planning permission was granted for a extension to Amington Industrial Estate (Read the article here).
It is hoped that the development will further boost the local economy in Tamworth with the creation of jobs, both during the building phase, which is due to begin next month and once the units are operational.
Jonathan Green, development surveyor at St Modwen, said: “Centurion Park is one of the most sought after locations in the Midlands region due to its superb transport links. Following a recent number of transactions, the scheme is fully occupied.
“This lack of stock, combined with a strengthening market has enabled us to accelerate plans for our extension of Centurion Park.
“We are already receiving calls from interested parties which will in turn trigger employment opportunities for light industrial, storage and distribution industries.”
