Catchy tune used to highlight service safety campaign

STAFFORDSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has released a new video with a serious message but a familiar tune.

The video is part of SFRS’s Get Out Stay Out campaign which highlights the dangers of tackling a fire yourself or going back into a burning building. It is hoped the video, which features a catchy song written to the tune of the Oompah Loompah music from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, will help make this important safety message memorable.

The video has been produced in-house and features fire service staff from across the county including firefighters from Longton, Lichfield and Rugeley and support staff. The song itself was also written by staff members and was produced and performed by Group Manager Toby Wilson.

Glynn Luznyj Director of Prevent and Protect said: “The idea of the video is to get a serious message out to the public in an innovative way that will catch their attention. It tells the story of some one who discovers a fire in their kitchen and attempts to go back inside and tackle it themselves in order to retrieve valuables. Most importantly it shows the serious consequences of not calling the fire service straight away.

“Each verse of the song explains the dangers you could face and what you should do in the event of a fire.

“The video will be posted on the Service’s social media sites over the coming month. We really hope people will share it to help spread this important safety message and ultimately prevent people being hurt or killed.”
